Generals Sign Two from University of the Incarnate Word
February 22, 2019 – With the 2019 Texas Collegiate League season just three months away, the Victoria Generals continue adding to their roster as they battle for another championship in the Texas Collegiate League. This week, the Generals have announced the addition of two players from Incarnate Word of the Southland Conference. Infielder Ryan Flores and right-handed pitcher Jake Zatopek will take the field for the Generals as they open their 11th season in the Texas Collegiate League.
"Our relationship with the Incarnate Word coaching staff continues to grow with the addition of these outstanding players," commented Mike Yokum, Generals Vice President and General Manager. "In recent years, we have had a strong presence from Incarnate Word on our roster and look forward to seeing these talented players help the Generals compete this Summer."
Infielder Ryan Flores, a sophomore from Corpus Christi, TX (CC Carroll HS), will compete at first base for the Generals. Flores had a solid freshman season last year appearing in 44 games with 53 hits, nine doubles, a triple, a home run, scoring 19 runs and 23 runs batted in. Flores was third on the team in hitting with a .329 batting average on the season. Flores is off to a great start to the 2019 season going 6-13 (.462 batting average) through the first 3 games of this young season. Out of high school, Flores was Second Team All-State in 2016 and All-District in 2017.
Pitcher Jake Zatopek, a sophomore from Richmond, TX (George Ranch High School) will look to add depth to the Generals pitching staff this Summer. Zatopek had a solid freshman season with Incarnate Word appearing in 12 games (8 starts), throwing 29 innings, 24 strike outs, 3.72 earned run average, while compiling a 4-1 record and holding the opponent to a .215 batting average against. Out of high school, Zatopek was the team MVP and First Team All District in 2016 and First Team All District in 2017.
The Victoria Generals will play 56 games with 28 of the games being played here in Victoria at Riverside Stadium. The Generals will begin the 2019 at home on May 29th as they take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The 2019 schedule can be found on the Generals website at www.victoriagenerals.com.
