Generals Beat Cane Cutters 9-2!08/01/2015 11:48 PM
8/1/2015 – Acadiana Cane Cutters vs. Victoria Generals
Pedro Barrios would go three for four with three runs scored and two RBIs, as the Victoria Generals beat the Acadiana Cane Cutters 9-2.
Barrios tripled in the bottom of the second, leading to the Generals’ first run of the night, as he scored off a 6-3 putout during Caden Williams’ at-bat.
The Acadian Cane Cutters answered in the top of the third scoring Zak Kutsulis off a double from Daniel Keating.
The Generals bats came alive in the bottom of the third. Romeo Cortina got things started when he singled to score Adam Goss, who reached on a fielder’s choice. Barrios would also single to score Darien Simms and Romeo Cortina the Generals would take a 4-1.
The Generals then took a 7-1 lead after Williams hit a three-run home run to score Barrios and Bryce Brandl, who reached on a hit-by-pitch.
Devontae Wilson replaced Michael Hancher, the starting pitcher for the Cane Cutters, in the bottom of the fourth. Hancher allowed seven runs on nine hits in three innings of work with three strike outs.
In the bottom of the fourth, Simms would walk and score off a double by Cortina. Travis Jones would pinch hit for Brandl after he was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third. The Generals would lead 8-1 after four innings of play.
T. Jones would come into the game to play right field in the top of the fifth as The Cane Cutters scored their second run of the night (unearned) off an error by the shortstop in the top of the fifth. The Generals would lead the Cane Cutters 8-2.
Barrios would score in the bottom of the fifth after reaching on a single making the Generals lead 9-2.
Leiff Clarkson would pinch hit for the Cane Cutters in the top of the eighth for shortstop Connor Short. Clarkson would enter the game at shortstop in the bottom of the eighth.
Chris Jones would come in to pitch for the Generals in the top of the eighth with two outs. Lee May Gonzalez was the starting pitcher for the Generals. Gonzalez allowed two runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out four, in seven and two-third innings of work.
C. Jones would pitch one and one-third innings, allowing no runs on no hits, and striking out two.
Gonzalez earns the win tonight for the Generals and Hancher earns the loss for the Cane Cutters.
Tomorrow night the Generals take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters in game two of the two game series. Tomorrow night is also Speedy Stop Sunday.
