RHP Holmes Signs with Generals

Corey Holmes - McLennan Community College

Opening day of the 2012 Texas Collegiate League summer baseball season is less than a week away.  The Victoria Generals continue to add the final pieces to their roster puzzle in preparation for the season.  The Generals latest signee is Corey Holmes, a right-handed pitcher from McLennan Community College in Waco.

Holmes, a 6’6” right-hander, joins the Generals pitching staff after having played the last two seasons for Generals head coach Chris Clemons at McLennan.  Holmes is currently undecided on where he will be transferring to next semester.

“Corey is going to have the ability to pitch a lot of innings for us this summer,” commented Blake Koch, Victoria’s general manager.  “This summer could be a big stepping stone for him in terms of his baseball career.”

Holmes, a native of Waco, Texas, has always been a big-time prospect, but injuries have slowed down his development.  Holmes missed his entire senior year of baseball at Midway High School due to an injury.  The injury kept Holmes out of action for much of his freshman year at McLennan as well as he was only able to make two appearances for the Highlanders.

As a sophomore in 2012, Holmes made seven appearances for McLennan.  Holmes struck out 12 batters in 11 innings while allowing only eight hits.

The Generals are set to report to camp on Wednesday, June 30.  They will have their first and only team practice on Thursday, June 31 before hitting the road to open the season in The Woodlands against the Woodlands Strykers on Friday, June 1.  The Generals will then travel to Lafayette, Louisiana for one game against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Saturday, June 2 before returning home to Victoria for the home opener.

The Generals home opener is on Sunday, June 3 at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.  Magnet schedules will be given away to the first 1,000 fans in attendance courtesy of Mr. Payroll Check Cashing.

Season tickets for all 30 of the Generals home games this season are on sale now.  Fans can buy tickets and team merchandise at the Generals team store located at 3708 North Navarro, Suite A in the Landmark Shopping Center, online at www.VictoriaGenerals.com, or by calling 361-485-9522.
