Victoria Native Pacheco Signs with Generals

Jordan Pacheco - University of Texas - San Antonio

Opening day for the Victoria Generals 2012 Texas Collegiate League season is just days away, and the Generals continue to round out their roster in preparation.  Victoria native and current University of Texas – San Antonio pitcher, Jordan Pacheco, will see if he can duplicate the success that he had at Riverside Stadium during his high school days for the Generals this summer.

The 6’0”,180-pound right-handed pitcher will compete for a starting role on head coach Chris Clemons’s pitching staff this summer.

“Coach Clemons and I are excited to have Jordan return home to pitch for the Generals this summer,” stated Blake Koch, Victoria’s general manager.  “We’ve had our eye on him since early in his high school career and we’re looking forward to seeing him perform in a Generals uniform.”

Following a stellar high school career at Memorial High School and Victoria West High School, Pacheco signed with UTSA where he had an impressive freshman campaign.  Pacheco posted a 1-3 record on the season with eight starts and 20 total appearances.  He struck out 43 batters in 51 innings to go along with his 5.82 ERA on the year.

Pacheco’s most impressive performance of the season came back on April 24 when he picked up his first collegiate win against Baylor University, who was ranked #1 in the nation at the time.  Pacheco held the Bears to just one run on seven hits while striking out a career-high five batters in 5.1 innings of work that night.  Pacheco’s performance helped put an end to Baylor’s 24-game winning streak as UTSA won the game 4-1.  The win was the first in UTSA Athletics history against a national top-ranked squad.

While beating top-ranked Baylor was a huge feat, Pacheco was no stranger to pitching in big games during his high school days.  As a senior at Victoria West, Pacheco threw a five-inning no-hitter against rival Victoria East to clinch the District 30-4A Championship.  For the season, Pacheco went 7-5 with nine complete games and three shutouts.  He posted a 2.62 ERA with 132 strikeouts in 80 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .170 batting average.  For his efforts, Pacheco was named Pitcher of the Year on the All-Area Team.

As a junior at Memorial, Pacheco went 10-3 with a 1.06 ERA.  He struck out 134 batters in 85.2 innings with nine complete games.  Pacheco was named the Pitcher of the Year on the All-Area Team as a junior as well.

Pacheco’s other high school accolades include being named all-district all four years of high school, the 2008 District 27-5A Newcomer of the Year, and honorable mention all-state.

“Jordan has a high ceiling in terms of his potential,” stated Koch.  “He’s only scratching the surface in terms of how good he can be.”

The Generals home opener is on Sunday, June 3 at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.  Season tickets for all 30 of the Generals home games this season are on sale now.  Fans can buy season tickets and team merchandise at the Generals team store located at 3708 North Navarro, Suite A in the Landmark Shopping Center, online at www.VictoriaGenerals.com, or by calling 361-485-9522.
