Generals Take Down Aces 8-7 in Regular Season Home Finale

Covey Morrow tied the TCL record for appearances in a single-season on Tuesday night
The Victoria Generals notched an important win on Tuesday night as they defeated the Alexandria Aces 8-7 at Riverside Stadium.  The Generals gained a spot in the TCL standings and are now one game ahead of the Brazos Valley Bombers for the fourth and final playoff spot in the TCL post-season.

The Generals will travel to Bryan on Wednesday night to take on the Bombers in a two-game series.  The Generals need just one win out of those two games to clinch the final playoff spot.

The Aces jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning off of Generals' starting pitcher Sam Hansen.

The Generals then cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third inning when Grayson Porter belted his second home run of the season, a solo shot that cleared the left field fence.

The Generals broke the game open by scoring six runs in the fourth inning.  Trace Knoblauch singled to right field to score Ryan Dalton who was on second base after a double.  With the bases loaded, Knoblauch came around to score on an error by the Aces first baseman.  Trent Wagner then scored on an RBI single by Tres Tyler who was making his season debut for the Generals.  Jake Runte and Chad Kruse were hit by pitches in back-to-back at bats with the bases loaded to score two more runs.  Freddy Villalobos then lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to plate Tyler.  It was Villalobos's league-leading 39th RBI of the season.  He is now two RBIs shy of tying the single-season TCL record.

With the Generals leading 7-2, the Aces got back in the ballgame with three runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth.

The Aces tied the game in the top of the eighth on back-to-back errors by the Generals.

Porter led off the bottom of the eighth for the Generals with a double.  Cory Hunt came on to pinch run for Porter at second base.  After a sacrifice bunt by Tyler, Hunt came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Generals the 8-7 advantage.

Covey Morrow came on in the ninth and retired the Aces in order to pick up his ninth save of the season.  With the appearance, Morrow tied the TCL single-season record at 29.

Jordan Harrison picked up the win in relief for the Generals.  It was his fourth win of the season.

Porter, Dalton, and Knoblauch each had two hits on the night to lead the Generals offense.

If the Generals are able to clinch the final playoff spot in the TCL post-season, they will host game one of the divisional round at Riverside Stadium on Friday night at 7:05pm.

The Generals are now 28-29 overall and 16-12 in the second-half.
