Generals Ride an Early Lead to Another Victory
July 14, 2022- The Generals faced off against the Acadiana Can Cutters on the road in game one of a two game series. This was the Generals third straight road game as they look to continue their hot start in the second half of the TCL season.
The Generals started off the game hot as following a leadoff walk from Samuel Benjamin, right fielder Malachi Lott blasted a two-run homerun which got the Generals on the board first. The offense continued in the first inning as Jackson Hardy hit a double with the bases loaded, bringing home two more runs and capping off a huge four run inning for the Generals.
In the second inning, the Generals were able to get runners in scoring position again, and third baseman Reed Spenrath delivered as he drove in a run with a single. Adrnian Minjares was also able to bring in a run on a fielder choice, giving the Generals a six-run lead heading into the third inning.
The Generals offense cooled off after the hot start, as they were unable to get any more runs across for the rest of the game. However, the pitching came through for the road team as starting pitcher Hunter Murray was excellent. Murray dominated the Cane Cutters through the first seven innings, as he gave up no runs and only allowed three hits. This outing allowed the Generals to keep their sizable lead all the way until the last two inning of the ballgame.
The Cane Cutters offense woke up in the eighth however, and Murray gave up his only two eared runs of the game and the Cane Cutters were able to score four runs total, making it a 6-4 ballgame heading into the ninth. The Generals offense could not bring across any insurance runs in the ninth, however that was no problem as Will Duncan came into the game and sealed a general’s victory, sticking out two batters in the ninth.
The Generals will be back in action tomorrow night for game two of a two game series as they take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters on the road. First pitch will be at 7:00 PM
