Generals Win Big On and Off the Field Beating Sod Squad and Scoring Over 20K for Warriors Weekend
Samuel Benjamin wasted no opportunities at the plate on Saturday, driving in four on three hits to lead Victoria Generals past Amarillo Sod Squad 19-5 on Saturday. Benjamin drove in runs on a single in the second, a double in the third, a home run in the sixth, and a in the seventh.
Following the game, the Generals held their Warrior’s Weekend Night at the Ballpark with their annual jersey auction. It was another huge win for Warrior’s Weekend as they collected $20,750 from our player jerseys, bringing the Generals auction total for Warrior’s Weekend to well over $125,000 in eight seasons.
Victoria Generals earned the victory despite allowing Amarillo Sod Squad to score three runs in the first inning. Amarillo Sod Squad's big inning was driven by doubles by Matthew Maloney and Karl Koeper and a home run by Ryon Knowles.
Victoria Generals pulled away for good with eight runs in the third inning. In the third Steven Rivas hit a solo homer, an error scored one run for Victoria Generals, Ethan Bedgood homered on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs, Benjamin doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Tyler Wulfert singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and Rivas doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Josh Salinas took the win for Victoria Generals. Salinas lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Reece Easterling, Brett Brown, Lance Lusk, and Gavi Coldiron all securing outs and ultimately the victory.
Brennan Berdon took the loss for Amarillo Sod Squad. Berdon lasted two and a third innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out two.
Colby Casey started the game for Victoria Generals. The ace lasted three innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out seven and walking zero
Victoria Generals launched four home runs on the day. Bedgood had a long ball in the third inning. Benjamin went yard in the sixth inning. Rivas had a dinger in the third and fifth innings.
Generals scattered 21 hits in the game. Cade Manning, Wulfert, Benjamin, Hayden Johnson, Rivas, Bedgood and Austin Ochoa each collected multiple hits for Generals. Rivas, Johnson, Benjamin, Wulfert, and Manning all had three hits on the night. The Generals played an error free game on the night.
After a slow start on the season, the Generals bats have come alive with 50 hits in the past three games raising the team batting average from .204 to a league leading .262. The Generals have three players, Sanguinetti, Rivas and Benjamin all hitting over .400 on the young season. The Generals also lead the league with 13 home runs including nine in the past three games. Rivas with three of those to raise his league leading total to five home runs on the season.
The Generals open up another two-game series with the Sod Squad on Tuesday night and have the Baton Rouge Rougarou coming back to town on for a two-game series starting on Friday night. |
