Pacheco, Generals Shut Down Cane Cutters in Home Opener!

The Victoria Generals started off another Texas Collegiate League summer season in style by winning their home opener on Sunday night over the Acadiana Cane Cutters by a final score of 7-2.  Generals starting pitcher and Victoria native Jordan Pacheco looked right at home on the mound at Riverside Stadium as he continued his success from his high school playing days with Memorial and Victoria West high schools.

Pacheco held the Cane Cutters offense in check for most of the night as he pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five in his first start of the season.

Pacheco gave way to another Victoria native, Daniel Tunchez, who came in and pitched the final two innings to close out the game.  Tunchez allowed just one run on one hit and struck out one batter.

The Generals and Cane Cutters traded runs in the first inning.  Chad Kruse drove a single into centerfield in his first at bat in the bottom of the first.  The hit tied Kruse for the lead for the most hits in franchise history in a career with Victoria native, and former TCL Player of the Year, Mark Hudson at 83.  Kruse later came around to score on an RBI double by Jude Vidrine.

The Generals then posted four runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Trent Wagner scored on an RBI double to the right-centerfield wall by Rudy Flores.  Flores would come around to score on an RBI triple by Kevin Daniels.  Daniels scored on an RBI single by Patrick Duncan before Duncan scored on an RBI single by catcher Blue Hybner.

Daniels drove home Flores in bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double to give the Generals a 6-1 lead.  The Generals final run of the game came on an RBI groundout by Hybner to score Daniels in the eighth inning.

The Generals improved to 3-0 on the season as the Cane Cutters fell to 1-2.
