Generals win #29 !

(Victoria, TX)  The Victoria Generals just keep on winning.  The Brazos Valley Bombers came to town Friday night, fighting for their playoff lives and the league leaders weren't very accomodating as they defeated the visitors 6-2.  The Texas Collegiate League regular season is winding down but the final playoff spot is still up for grabs.  The Generals have locked up the the regular season championship and the #1 seed, but the Bombers and McKinney Marshalls are still in contention to qualify.

The Bombers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning as Casey Dykes crushed a Michael Oros pitch over the left field wall, but that was all their offense could muster.

The Generals offense was held at bay by Corey Sartor until the fifth inning when Bryson Miles and James Hipp delivered back to back rbi singles.  Joey Kenworthy then doubled to the right center wall for another run and Mark Hudson delivered a sacrifice fly to deep center.   The Generals added two in the 8th to seal the victory when Hudson tripled and Mike Davis doubled him home.  Andy Russell advanced him to third and Brendan McGaheran plated his best friend with a sacrafice fly to center.

Oros was replaced by Texas State's Covey Morrow in the fourth inning with one on and one out.   Morrow proceeded to mow down Bomber after Bomber and blanked the opposition until the Generals' closer Zach Nudding finished off the ninth.  It was Morrow's first TCL  victory.

The Generals were led offensively by James Hipp, Joey Kenworthy,  and Mark Hudson who had 2 hits each.   Hudson raised his league leading batting average to .384 and will wrap up the batting title as he leads by 34 points over McKinney's JB Brown.

The final regular season game begins at 7:05 Saturday at Riverside Stadium against the same Bomber team from Brazos Valley.
